When you think they’re too old…

I used to sing this song to my daughter every night when she was a little girl. Tonight she came to me with tears in her eyes, just wanting to cuddle. She wouldn’t or maybe couldn’t tell me what was wrong. So I sang to her and held her while she worked herself out of whatever put her in that state. She gave me a big hug and kiss, said “Thanks, Mom,” and went back to her room.

Sometimes being the mom of a teenage girl can be hard to navigate. The momma bear in me wants to protect her from whatever has her upset, but the educator in me knows that sometimes we have to let them fight their own battles. She knows I’m here for her in whatever capacity she needs me. I just hope that I did the right thing by not prying too much and just being the anchor she needed in the moment.

I hope all is well for everyone. As always, happy reading.

Baby mine, don’t you cry.
Baby mine, dry your eyes.
Rest your head close to my heart,
Never to part,
Baby of mine.

Little one, when you play,
Pay no heed what they say.
Let your eyes sparkle and shine,
Never a tear, baby of mine.

If they knew all about you,
They’d end up loving you too.
All those same people who scold you,
What they’d give just for the right to hold you.

From your head down to your toes,
You’re not much, goodness knows.
But, you’re so precious to me,
Sweet as can be, baby of mine.
